You and your group will be picked up in the evening, and immediately taken out of Reykjavík to escape the city lights of the capital. Where you go depends entirely on the forecast; your guide will need to find a place with little cloud cover, no light pollution, unblocked views of the sky and, for your personal enjoyment, somewhere that the clogged tour buses will not be going.

This means that anywhere in west and south Iceland could be visited on this tour. You may, for example, head to the barren and haunting Reykjanes Peninsula, renowned for its many lava fields and its dramatic volcanoes, or perhaps the historic and beautiful Þingvellir National Park. As you will hunt for three hours, there are many great destinations you may see by night.

Your guide is an expert on the surrounding landscapes, the science behind the auroras, where to find them, and how to best photograph them. This means that when they start to descend in the sky, your guide will be able to help you capture your memory forever.

The majesty of the Northern Lights must be seen to be believed. Swirling beautifully over the landscapes, they are usually green but can often also be purple, red, pink, white and even blue.

Because the auroras are a natural phenomenon, they are not 100% guaranteed even on clear nights with a great forecast. If you do not see them—or if your tour is cancelled due to adverse conditions—you will have another opportunity to seek them out again for free.
