Enjoy a spectacular horseback ride in the valley of Mosfellsdalur, and recharge afterwards at the Blue Lagoon Spa. This tour should not be missed by any who want to combine the two classic Icelandic experiences of meeting the Icelandic Horse and bathing in geothermally heated waters.

You will be picked up from a predetermined meeting point in Reykjavík in the morning, and be whisked just outside the city. Mosfellsdalur is only twenty minutes or so drive away, but even so, is immersed in nature; this valley is verdant, partly forested, and has a beautiful river running through it.

You will meet your horses at Laxnes Farm, which is named after Iceland’s only Nobel Prize Winner, Halldór Laxness, who lived in the area. Icelandic horses are a special breed; compared to others, they are smaller, sturdier, smarter and much more sociable. These traits will become apparent as soon as you see them, and even more so when you gear up, mount, and start to ride.

You will travel by idyllic farms, in the shadow of mighty mountains, past historic buildings, and across a shallow river. Your guide will tell you all about the surroundings and your steeds as you follow them. They will also allow you to practice the different gaits that Icelandic horses have; they are the only breed worldwide, for example, to perform the tölt.

After a scenic and adventurous ride, you’ll return to Laxness Farm, and be driven from there to the Blue Lagoon. This route will take you back through Reykjvík, then along the geological wonderland of the Reykjanes Peninsula.

Near the end of this region, you will see steam pouring into the sky, revealing the Blue Lagoon. This spa is world famous for its beautiful azure waters, its silica face masks, and its reputed healing properties.

Your ticket for the Blue Lagoon is not included in this tour, so be sure to book separately and well in advance, as spaces are limited. If you would rather explore Reykjanes’s lava fields by foot, you can do that instead. The pool, however, is incredibly restorative, and perfect for loosening up any tension built over your holiday.

After enjoying the Blue Lagoon, you’ll be transferred back to Reykjavík, with full knowledge that you have enjoyed two authentic Icelandic experience.

Ride an Icelandic horse and bask in a world-famous spa by booking now.
