The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Thingvellir is famous for two reasons. One being that it is home to one of the oldest parliamentary institutions in the world with the first Parliament being held in 930.
It is also here where the North American and European tectonic plates meet, or rather, pull away from each other at a rate of 2cm a year.
