Day 1: Reykjavík – Landmannalaugar Area

We depart from Reykjavík in the morning and begin our journey toward the Landmannalaugar area. When we reach the mountains, our expert snowmobile guide will give you a safety briefing before we head out to explore our winter wonderland. We will show you how to ride safely through the mountain terrain while exploring some amazing snowmobiling areas.

After a few hours of riding, we will reach our mountain hut in the Landmannalaugar area, Hrafntinnusker. The hut at Hrafntinnusker, Hoskuldarskali, was built in 1977 at 1,027 meters above sea level. The hut is geothermally heated throughout the year.

Our hut at Hrafntinnusker is named after obsidian, a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed as an extrusive igneous rock. It is produced when felsic lava extruded from a volcano cools rapidly with minimal crystal growth.

At our traditional mountain hut, our guide will prepare a traditional mountain barbecue before we head off to bed and rest for our next day of snowmobiling.

Day 2: Landmannalaugar Area – Reykjavík

Now that the sun has come up, our day continues. After a nice breakfast, our expert snowmobile guide will lay out the plan for our second day in the Fjallabak Nature Reserve in the Highlands of Iceland.

The Fjallabak Nature Reserve was established in 1979. The nature reserve covers approximately 47,000 hectares and lies more than 500 meters above sea level. The landscape is mountainous and has been sculpted by volcanoes and geothermal activity. It is covered by lava fields, sands, rivers, and lakes.

There is still plenty to explore in this vast and fascinating mountainous area.

After an exciting day of snowmobiling, we will begin our journey back toward our pickup vehicle, which will drive us to Reykjavík.

We expect to be back in Reykjavík in the evening.
