After being picked up in the morning, you will board a spacious and comfortable jeep or minibus and set off toward Iceland’s South Coast. Along the way, you can admire dramatic landscapes, rugged mountains, volcanic terrain, and vast stretches of untouched wilderness.
Your first stop is Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where you will see icebergs floating serenely in the freezing waters and may even spot a seal or two. Nearby, you will visit Diamond Beach, where pieces of ice from the lagoon rest on the black volcanic sand, sparkling like crystals in the sunlight. It is truly an amazing sight and one of the most memorable stops along Iceland’s South Coast.
Afterward, you will travel through rugged Icelandic terrain toward the Ice Cave. Upon arrival, a local guide will provide you with essential safety equipment, including crampons, a helmet, and lights, before you enter the magnificent ice cave.
The ice caves are natural phenomena, meaning their appearance, accessibility, and conditions are constantly influenced by Mother Nature. Your guide will carefully assess the conditions and explain the necessary safety instructions before entering. Inside, you can admire the stunning shades, textures, and formations created naturally within the ice.
Your final scheduled stop is Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, where you can walk behind the cascading water when conditions allow. During the winter months, the waterfall is illuminated, creating excellent photo opportunities and an enchanting atmosphere. The combination of falling water, surrounding cliffs, and winter scenery makes this a particularly beautiful part of the journey.
The final highlight of the day is the Northern Lights. If the dancing auroras have not made an appearance during your tour and the skies are clear, you will take a small detour on the way back to Reykjavík. Your experienced guide will search for the best possible location and monitor the skies in hopes of finding these elusive and spectacular lights.
You can expect the tour to take approximately 14 to 16 hours, so we recommend bringing snacks and drinks for the journey. You can also purchase refreshments along the way, as the driver will make short stops at service stations during the tour. Dress warmly in comfortable layers and bring your camera to capture the incredible landscapes, glowing ice, waterfalls, and, if conditions are right, the magical Northern Lights.
