Come along on an adventure on the East Jökulsá River, also known as 'The Beast of the East'. This challenging and rewarding river rafting tour is perfect for those who wish to spice up their holiday with an adrenaline-pumping excursion.
You'll depart from the rafting base camp at Hafgrímsstaðir in northern Iceland's Skagafjörður region. If you are travelling in the North, you can request to be picked up from the town of Akureyri for an extra fee.
From Hafgrímsstaðir, you'll board a vehicle that will take you to the river where you'll be given all necessary rafting equipment, such as a helmet and drysuit. Your experienced guide will then teach you all about the boat and how to manoeuvre it through the rapids.
Then there is nothing left but to board the boat and rush down the river. The water will soon turn white with rapids as you move through river gorges and canyons with mossy springs trickling down the cliffs. You'll have the whitewater splashing as you manoeuvring the craft down steep drops and over turbulent waters.
This is a demanding but incredibly awarding tour. The East Jökulsá River originates in Iceland's third largest glacier, Hofsjökull, and its strong stream, thrilling whitewater, and incredible canyon scenery make it one of the country's best rafting rivers.
