Thorsmork Super Jeep - March 2017

We took the Porsmork Tour with Magnus and a great American Couple. The weather was clear and we set of from the Ragna with Magnus our Lead Guide and Driver of the Super Jeep. It quickly became obvious we had struck gold. I do not think we stopped talking from start to finish of our 7 hour trip. Magnus was probably one of the most knowledgeable and interesting guides we have ever been lucky enough to meet. How many people can relate the flood of a glacier emptying a lake in Iceland to the area of Manhattan or relating stories of Alfred the Great in the context of the Iceland parliament? This was a great tour and is highly recommended. We started by driving off road to the Black Sand beaches and almost ended up getting an early bath from the incoming tide. Then we headed inland to the area between the glaciers. Magnus drove us to within a kilometre walk across streams right up to what appeared to be a tunnel under the glacier. Then we continued inland across more rivers and gully's into a unique set of gully's for another walk. We stopped for a delicious bowl of soup at the Volcano Huts and then had another walk and toboggan slide, not on a sledge, down. A dramatic drive off road along and across rivers eventually getting back to Route 1. This is not a cheap day out but it is worth every Kroner/Dollar/Euro/Pound if you really want to get a great picture of the geology, the history and people of Iceland. Southcoast have a great team and we were especially fortunate to be with a great teacher, driver and expedition leader. Absolutely terrific and highly recommended. Thank you, Magnus and South Coast. Thorsmork Super Jeep Tour - September 2017

We are a couple in our late thirties/early forties and booked the Thorsmork Super Jeep tour. We decided to book with Southcoast based on referrals and the fact that they offered lunch. We arrived and was greeted by our driver Sighle (not sure if I got the spelling right). We learned we were the only ones on the tour that day so that was a bonus. We started off and Sighle informed us to ask as many questions as we'd like and as he told us about the area, stories of trolls, elfs, etc. we asked a ton of questions. We learned a lot about the country and geology that day. If you have a day you must see Thorsmork. It's spectacular! It also helped that we had a perfect weather day, sunny and 60. After we drove close to Katla, Sighle asked if we wanted to hike up a mountain. We said yes and he drove us to the beginning of a trail, told us what path to follow and told us he'd meet us at the end. We really appreciated he allowed us this opportunity. We finished the hike in an hour and he met us at the base of the trail, which finished at the Volcano Huts for lunch. Lunch was good...soup, bread, cakes and salad. Perfect after the hike. Earlier in the day we had asked him what had changed most geographically since he was a kid growing up in the area and he took us to an area that used to be a lake at the end of the glacier. Now the tongue of the glacier is very short and the lake gone. Last he took us to a secret canyon. We hiked on rocks, climbed up a small waterfall with a rope and saw a beautiful waterfall. It was such a special moment. Nothing we would have done on our own. I was a bit nervous about rappelling back down the little waterfall, but Sighle is a great teacher. He showed me where to put my feet and encouraged me. Overall, our tour was supposed to be 5 hours and ended up being 7 hours long. It was the best day we had during our 10 days in Iceland. Oh...and we learned at the end that Sighle...he is the owner of the company. If his other guides even have a tenth of his knowledge and great attitude, you can't go wrong with this company.

Landmannalaugar By Super Jeep - October 2017

We had the most magnificent day, with Arni guiding us to Landmannalaugar in September 2017. He was absolutely brilliant with his historical information, geological insights, stories and excellent driving. Not sure I've ever had such enthusiastic attention from a guide, as we enjoyed with Arni.... and loaning me your rain pants was truly above and beyond, since I left mine back at the hotel.(I trust everyone should not expect these perks). HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! Thanks so much!

Snowmobiling On Eyjafjallajökull

This was amazing! All equipment provided, we were taken by jeep to the snowmobiles, parked in the snowy wilderness. Arni, our guide, showed us the ropes and then off we set. We started before the sun rose, and it was beautiful to watch the world come alight. Highly recommend this experience.

Þórsmörk Super Jeep Tour - August 2017

We did a super jeep drive to Þórsmörk and it was fantastic! Our guide was outstanding, very knowledgeable and customized the experience for our group. He took us to a very remote waterfall that was a little tricky to get to, but well worth the hike and little climb. We drove through several streams which was cool and did a short hike on foot. The views were incredible - at some points (along the hike), beautifully green and lush and at other times (close to the glacier), it looked like you were walking on the moon. Well worth the price.
