Come along on an excursion of the marine life of Breiðafjörður Bay. This whale watching tour is perfect for all nature lovers who are travelling the Snæfellsnes peninsula and want to add an adventurous twist to their holiday.

Depending on the time of the year, you will either set sails from the town of Grundarfjörður or the little village of Ólafsvík. You’ll head straight out into Breiðafjörður Bay, where your captain will find the best place to spot the magnificent whales.

As you cruise the ocean, your expert guide will tell you all about each creature you see and answer any questions you may have about the area.

The oceans along the Snæfellsnes coastline is the best place to see two of Iceland’s top predators; Orcas, also known as killer whales, and sperm whales. The Orcas are apex predators, which mean that no other animal feeds on them, while the majestic sperm whale is the world’s largest predatory animal.

Other species of whale also make Breiðafjörður Bay their home, such as minke whales, harbour porpoises, acrobatic white-beaked dolphins and enormous humpback whales. On rare occasions, pilot whales have been spotted migrating from the high seas towards the island in search of food.

Breiðafjörður Bay is also known for its diverse birdlife, so you should keep an eye out for those brightly coloured beaks of puffins and arctic terns as you sail along the beautiful Snæfellsnes peninsula.

Snæfellsnes combines all the wonders of Iceland. There you can find stunning waterfalls, imposing cliffs, jagged lava fields, sandy shores and amazing wildlife. Looming over the area is Snæfellsjökull, a 7000-year-old stratovolcano with a glacier covering its summit.
