Jump into the deep end with this fantastic snorkelling tour in the glacial spring, Silfra Fissure, the gorge between the continents, as well as explore the dazzling interior of one of Iceland's famous lava caves. This is the perfect tour opportunity for eager adventurers looking to fit multiple activities into a single day.

You will first be picked up by your experienced guide from your accommodation in Reykjavík and driven roughly forty minutes towards your destination; the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Þingvellir National Park. Þingvellir is culturally important to Icelanders given that this is the site where the first democratically elected parliament on earth, the Althingi, was also established in 930 AD.

Thingvellir is also a geological marvel; situated on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, it is one of the only places on the planet where one can see the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates exposed from the earth. It is also the only place where it is possible to snorkel directly between them; this brings us to our first activity of the day, snorkelling in Silfra Fissure!

Silfra is a glacial spring, famed for its crystal clear visibility, dramatic scenery and wealth of colour. To snorkel in the fissures, you will first listen to a briefing that details the location, as well as how to use the equipment, and will provide facts about the snorkel site itself. Thankfully, there is a light current running through Silfra, meaning it never freezes over.

Once you have set foot back on dry land, you will continue towards the hidden underworld of a typical Icelandic lava cave; Leiðarendi. Stepping into this dark and subterranean world, you will immediately be taken by the peculiar rock formations and gorgeous colours that lay imprinted on the cave walls.

Make sure you're wearing some good shoes, as the cave requires a little clambering and climbing, and be sure to listen eagerly to your guide as they discuss the historical and geological relevance of Icelandic cave systems. When your time in the cave is over, you will make the return journey back to your accommodation in the capital.
